Which Pieces Are in the See’s Candies Nuts and Chews Box?

I like to know what’s in a pre-packaged See’s assortment, but they don’t list every single piece in the box—quite possibly because it’s not always the same, so perhaps I will need to get several of each box JUST TO BE SURE. See also:

I see I have not been consistent with What/Which.

I’m not sure how I missed the Nuts and Chews box before, and in fact I was pretty sure I HAD done it, but I can’t find it, so oops, oh dear, what a shame, I had to order another box.

Here’s the description See’s gives for the Nuts and Chews Assortment: “Featuring California-grown walnuts, almonds, rich caramel and more, enrobed in layers of milk and dark chocolate. Hand-packed with bestsellers, including Dark Almond, Milk Walnut, Scotchmallow®, Caramel and more.”

It’s one pound, and here’s what was in my box (see here for descriptions):

Caramel
Dark Almond (4)
Dark Butterchew (2)
Dark Nougat
Dark Pattie
Dark Peanut (not listed in Custom Mix options)
Milk Almond (3)
Milk Butterchew (3)
Milk Pattie
Milk Peanut
Milk Walnut
Peanut Nougat
Rum Nougat
Scotchmallow (2)
Walnut Square
looked like Walnut Square, but with almonds
looked like Walnut Square, but with peanuts (2)

The ones where I say they “looked like Walnut Square,” I would have just called them Almond Square and Peanut Square, because that probably IS what they’re called, but those pieces aren’t listed in the Custom Mix section.

I felt as if this box had GRACIOUS PLENTY Dark Almond pieces.

Also, the box overall seemed a little heavy on the peanut flavor.

Of the seventeen types, only one is the sort I tend to include in a Custom Mix—but it’s not because I don’t like the others. I really love the chocolate-covered nut cluster type of candy, but I always feel…as if I could make those myself, or something. And although I really like chocolate-covered caramel, for some reason I don’t think of choosing them. THIS MUST CHANGE.

Let’s see, that leaves sixteen types to put into categories. I’d say ten are kinds I might not think to order, but am very happy to see. And all the rest are ones I do like, but don’t go crazy for.

That assessment seems kind of unenthusiastic, but actually I think this was the first assortment that, for my tastes, would be a good value over the custom mix: I liked all the pieces in the box, and wasn’t disappointed by any of it. I liked the balance of nut pieces to caramel pieces, and I liked the mix of dark and milk chocolate. Custom mix is $23.00/pound, and the Nuts & Chews assortment is $18.50 a pound: for my own chocolate preferences, that makes the Nuts & Chews assortment a box I’ll order again.

There is a See’s store in my town. If I’m in a bit of a hurry and don’t want to pick out custom pieces, the Nuts and Chews box is always the one I pick; I feel exactly the same way you do about it. All good, some great, no disappointments.

Even though (as far as I know) See’s doesn’t exist here in France, I have read every single one of your See’s posts and I really, really shouldn’t… They make my mouth water, and they make me crave this kind of chocolate (sooo hard to find here – French/Swiss/Belgian chocolate is great and all that, but their “selection” boxes always have way too many praline-y type things, when I much prefer the types you describe)… Good job I’m going to my dad’s in Scotland for Christmas – plenty of this kind of chocolate in the UK. Thank goodness.

I’ve always skipped over this box because it seemed to nutty. But I never realized until reading this, which makes me seem pretty dim I guess, that the “chews” were not necessarily nut-based-chews. And I love all the chewy ones you listed, and like the nut ones enough to enjoy them. How helpful. I will have to get one of these once I’m back in the states (no Sees in Canada either).

Nuts and Chews is my most absolute FAVORITE box of chocolates in the whole world. I end up with a pound of it on a few occasions every year. YUM. That reminds me…. by birthday is two weeks away, I bet I’ll get a pound then!

I found it somewhat hilarious how IRATE the commenters on the See’s site are about the lack of almond squares. They are incensed and outraged!

My husband has taken to stopping at the See’s Candy kiosk at the San Francisco airport on his way home from business trips. Yes, there are many such trips. He *usually* brings candy when I have complained that the children have been particularly vexing that time around.

He brings the assortment in the silver box, which is milk and dark chocolate coated, mostly caramel or nuts, few creams, a few butter crunch things and nothing fruity or mapley.

He asked the person working there, and she said the silver box never has fruity ones. So, there you go. Just putting that info out there, in case anyone is in a hurry. ;-)

every time you post about see’s, all i can think is PEANUT BRITTLE. whenever anyone in the office goes to SF, they are contractually obligated to return with a box of see’s peanut brittle, which is then summarily disposed of by the office vultures. it is the best peanut brittle i’ve ever had.

Nuts and Chews is always the go to. Can’t believe you hadn’t tried it. And did I tell you I recently got to TOUR the Sees FACTORY as part of my day job?? This was a major highlight. And employees get a solid discount on misshapen chocolates so it’s probably good I don’t work there.

I always buy Nuts and Chews for at least three occasions throughout the year. This year, at Christmas, I was disappointed, in that, at least 8 or nine pieces were just plain carmel, covered in chocolate. Why? There were only a couple of creams. Please do not skimp on the creams with nuts, and the nutty pieces.
