Gift Idea: Head-Petting Hairbrush

I would like to recommend a hairbrush I bought because Temerity Jane said to. I mean, seriously: she said it was better, and I placed an order.

It’s called The Wet Brush, but that doesn’t mean you have to wet it down or that your hair has to be wet. I love it. It feels like it’s petting my head. I went from HATING to brush my hair to NOT hating it. I used it one time and dropped my old brush right into the trash, no regrets.

I bought the smaller one for Elizabeth, and since then have bought two more small ones because she loses them and I never want to have to use a comb on her hair again. The “color may vary” thing on the small brush is ridiculous: I want to CHOOSE. Target has a few colors (mine has purple, pink, and blue), or you can buy a big/small set.

What I WANTED to recommend was the fun patterned ones, like the Happy one I bought, because those would be so much better as fun gift ideas: you could do a cute patterned hair brush and some nice conditioner or something. But mine has PEELED:

This is not the result of hard use: I’ve used the brush once per day for 4.5 months, to comb wet, clean, productless hair. No blow-dryer, no 200-strokes combing ritual, no weird product residue on my hands, just regular combing. It feels dumb to replace it just because it doesn’t look nice anymore (and sometimes leaves little flecks of rainbow dandruff in my hair), but you can bet that when I DO replace it, I’m buying a solid color.

And I DO recommend the non-patterned ones as gifts: I’d either pair one with something related (expensive conditioner, hair accessories, the smaller brush), or else put it in the stocking.

I highly considered the purchase when I read Temerity Jane suggest it but never pulled the trigger and have since forgotten about it. But, BUT, a second review from another person was just what I needed to secure a Wet Brush of my very own and a mini for my mini. If it can help my daughter to not dread brushing her hair every single day then it will be well worth it.

My older girls, one with super thick hair that gets knots underneath, and one with super fine hair that knots if you look at it funny, ALL CAPS LOVE this brush. We haven’t had tears during hair brushing in months. Highly recommend.

I have gone through a series of wonderful brushes that I can no longer find. The Body Shop made a version, but they no longer do, at least here in Canada – I suspect it may be like this brush in that the bristles are super-gentle on your head and hair and easily glide through tangles, but it’s even better because the bristles are metal so you don’t get static from it, which is a big deal here in our super-dry winters. If ANYONE knows where to find such a thing, I’d be grateful for a recommendation. My original and its successor both had wood handles, but that’s only a bonus. I got a different one from the Body Shop that was suggested by their salespeople, and it was like brushing my hair with a rake. A hard, pointy rake that is supposed to be used to break up dirt clumps, not even the broad flexible kind you use for leaves.

Best brush in the world! I just bought a 2nd one because the first went missing. But this is the only brush the we can use on my 5 year old and avoid drama and tears. It’s amazing that it is so different and gentle but it really really is.

Ditto what everyone else said! I use it, my daughter uses it and my toddler son uses it. We all love it, no tears, no fights, etc. The best!

Best. Brush. Ever. My 9-year-old with a full grown woman’s red, coarse and unruly hair…she brushes her hair every day now. And that is no small feat, friends.

These are the BEST. We have three, because if we can’t find one in the morning then we might as well just go back to bed because I can’t brush my daughter’s hair with anything else. I use them on me, too, of course. Best, best, best.

Have you tried using clear nail polish to seal the peeling patterned brush? I once did this with a similar pair of sun glasses and it helped tremendously!

Weird! I got a wet brush in the (googling….) October 2013 popsugar must have box and it has never faded. I especially like it for Adriana’s hair; she has this crazy fine hair that knots up if you look at it funny, and there are only a few brushes she will allow to touch her little princess head. She likes this one, the tangle teezer, and the Sonia kashuk brush that is kind of a mason pearson knockoff. We lose and find our brushes all of the time, hence the many brush options.

I just bought a Wet Brush a few weeks ago and LOVE it. I was in the hair aisle at Target on a whim, completely overwhelmed (I too dislike brushing my hair) and thinking my old hairbrush was disgustingly old. I was looking for something that looked not scratchy and awful, and voila, I accidentally chose this magical brush!

My hairdresser was raving, RAVING about this brush last week! Now that it is Swistle recommended, I will have to get one!

Done! My hair is a bit longer than it was back when TJ recommended it (although I was tempted then), and of late it has been driving me up the wall with the knots and especially the YEOWCH. And this was the best price I’ve seen, too. Thank you muchly!

Just went and purchased! If my kids will stop whining about how painful hair brushing is every morning then kiss and hugs and chocolates and all good things to Swistle because MY GOD THE WHINING OVER HAIR BRUSHING. Which frankly baffles me because over the years there are times I would honestly pay someone to brush my hair. It’s so relaxing!

Thank you so much! I have super curly hair and literally haven’t owned a brush for decades. But my 8 year old has straight hair and I keep trying different brushes on her and she keeps complaining about Pain! and Be gentle! So excited to get this for her for the holidays.

I love this brush as well. I bought one after the temerity Jane post, too, and I just bought like 6 more because I need some for gifts and one in every room. Plus the swimming lesson bag. My curly headed daughter gets tangles so well, this brush feels like nothing but the magical tangles are just gone.

We have that brush but we still have tangles and tears sometimes (6-y-o). She has super thick hair, but I don’t know – I must be doing it wrong.

You know, in all these years I have not ever clicked over to Temerity Jane. Crazy right?! I did yesterday and sat there hee-hawing at the kitchen counter for at least an hour!

TJ should get some kind of kickback from that company, because I bought one on her recommendation too. I really love it, but my kiddo thinks it’s meh. She says it takes too long to use; I guess she’d rather pull through the tangles and break off all her hair than slow down and just brush gently. She’s brushing her own hair, though, so whatever.

We’ve had two of these for quite some time – a friend recommended them one summer when I was complaining about Skyler’s knotty pool hair. They DO work wonderfully but I’ve found they are not pre-teen friendly. What I mean by that is that she leaves it on the floor, stuffs it in a soccer bag, leaves it on her bed etc and the bristles (not really bristles) bend easily. Perhaps it isn’t the brush’s fault, but…a thought to consider.

I’ve also considered actually tethering my hair brushes to my bathroom sink somehow because this child is a loser of all things. I have to sift the detritus of her room to find MY hairbrush.

I also contributed to the TJ-Wet-Brush sales-spike. One big, one little. I really want to buy about a dozen little ones and just tuck them in various corners because UGH, SO CUTE AND USEFUL.

I love love love this brush. I threw out all my other brushes. Bought one for my long-haired son. Bought the small one for my travel kit. Should have bought another small one for my son’s travel kit. I’ve thrown out all my other brushes!

Thanks! Also wanted to say that it’s worth checking prices for all colors. One of the pink was only $4-5 as an add on item
