I’m always quite startled when I see the calories for things like this – or for a Starbucks blended drink – it’s like, I could eat two chocolate bars, or a bag of chips…

I like the idea of making it with skim milk and maybe slightly lighter on the syrup and adding plain sugar. I love those coffee drinks! I would have never thought of making milk cubes for the kids, what a great idea. Thanks!

Me too. On my own version, I deduct the skim milk calories since that’s a Good Food. But when I saw the calories in just the chocolate syrup I was like “Whole candy bar….or 4 tablespoons of flavoring.”

Posted this after the fact in yesterday’s comments, but you can use a packet of Swiss Miss sugar free cocoa mix to replace the sugar, chocolate, and milk, and cut way down on the calories! The you could “afford” a squirt of chocolate syrup on top, if you wanted!

Have you ever read what is ACTUALLY in a McDonalds iced coffee? It isn’t just milk & cream. Scary. There are tons of nasty chemicals in there. Your version is so much better on so many levels. Not only are you controlling what you’re drinking, but it is endlessly customizable (is that even a word?). Anyway, good recipe. I’ll be making it soon.

not to pile on the McD version (Ok, I am piling on) but I used to work with a chef who told me never to order a blended drink or milkshake there since they use oil to as a thickening agent since it’s so cheap. making your own is the way to go, for sure.
