This Clementine is No Filet Mignon

I am back from another extremely fun weekend with my brother, my sister-in-law, my niece and nephew, and my sister-in-law’s two siblings. WE HAVE SO MUCH FUN. I highly recommend having someone from your family marry someone from their family.

The problem with having so much fun is that it can feel a bit drab to return to normal life. This weekend we were shopping in a candy store, having white wine at a tavern, laughing so hard I was about two millimeters from accidentally sobbing, and for breakfast eating leftover filet mignon and mushrooms with our scrambled eggs and waffles and candy. And now it is Monday morning and I have eaten a clementine for breakfast because nothing is like filet mignon. I ate it moodily, and resentfully.

I keep trying to guilt our siblings into moving onto our street so that I could have delightful company all the time but none of them have fallen for it yet. Probably because we move so often that we have moved four times since I started this campaign.

Oh, those are the best kinds of family visits. It’s been too long since I had a good laugh-til-I-cry laugh. In related news, it seems–especially the older I get–like there should be some minor holiday like Valentine’s Day that occurs in mid-January to give us all something to look forward to post-Christmas and to continue to ease us on therough the winter. January itself is no filet mignon either. Sigh.

I always get such a letdown after the holidays. We have so much family and always get to see everybody and have so!much!fun! And then comes January, and bills and snow and kids who don’t want to go to school. Life is grim. But isn’t it great to love your in laws? I love all my in-law siblings so much. I want to marry my brother in law off to someone equally awesome so badly!

When we were leaving a trip a couple years ago, I said something to Mike along the lines of, “I just really love vacation. I wish I could make a living doing this…” And Mike looked at me and said, “You enjoy vacation? Do you think you’re UNIQUE?” Ah, I know exactly the Monday you speak of! It’s a bitch.

We want MORE MORE MORE siblingfests! MORE MORE MORE.
I think you and I should choose the next addition to this familial gathering.
You know, just to make sure the new in-laws meet our Fun Requirements.
If only I knew how to begin!
