Retraction

The Swistle Channel would like to issue a retraction of a statement issued earlier today that the 2ish-year (infant/toddler combo) spacing is the most difficult. The statement should have read that all spacings are equally impossible, and that the real question is why anyone would want to have children at all. Thank you.

We now return you to your regularly-scheduled procreation plans.

This retraction makes me feel better too. When I read the first post I was like, “Whoa, good to know I just screwed myself and now have two years of torment to look forward to.” But now I can know that I would have been screwed no matter when Eli came along, so, yay! ;)

Oh well. I’m goin’ for it anyway. Ever since I saw replies to Sundry’s post on the terrible twos (sorry, I can’t do links well), in which moms said “oh but THREE is WORSE, and then there’s FOUR and that’s even WORSE!, and so on,” I just threw my hands in the air and decided that it was, indeed, all going to be difficult.

I’m soothed too, by your retraction. But I’m concerned about your original post, because it shows that you can do it, and that you’ve done it. I can barely get it together to raise up this one kid, I don’t know what in the hell I’m going to do when this second one comes. Even if it’s the best baby ever (which, come on, what are the chances?) I’ll still have a 2.5 year old who was the worst baby ever and is gunning for Worst Toddler Ever. Sigh.

I just clicked over from the comment you left over at my post and I snorted diet coke through my nose laughing!!

It is never easy. The challenges don’t go away, they just change. All you guys with babies and toddlers are making me feel old!

Love your blog and look forward to visiting more often!

As someone who is getting old, hasn’t gotten started yet, but envisions multiple children, close spacing is inevitable.

    *sigh*

At least I will have plenty of sympathy and company from the internets.

I totally agree that no spacing is ideal. But I do think personality has a lot to do with how easy or hard it is–although there is something to be said for it being hard any old way.

My mom had five kids and it is totally fascinating to me, as an adult, to reflect on what sibling combos worked, which ones didn’t, and how this changed over time. And, truth be told, I don’t think a whole lot of this has to do with spacing.

And, I’m sure you know, my personal ad was pretty silly. I could still be friends with you if you dose your kids now and then with benadryl.

But I’m all for promoting the mommy personal ads. Proceed with abandon!
