Celebrity Baby Name Guessing Game

Shannon writes:

So…. Ryan Reynolds & Blake Lively are expecting their fourth kid. They already have 3 daughters named… James, Inez, and Betty! What an eclectic & unpredictable mix of sibling girl names! I want to suggest that you do a poll on what kid #4 will be named, especially if it’s another girl. Swistle readers would love it! :)

Well, I suspect Shannon is absolutely right.

I am perhaps EVEN MORE interested in what they would name a boy. For a girl, I feel like we grasp their style, insofar as it can be grasped: they wish to surprise! and perhaps shock! They wish to choose the name they think no one else will choose! Would they do the same for a boy, or would they have a different style for boy names?

I HEARD that Taylor Swift might’ve leaked a possible name in a recent song. SUPPOSEDLY she uses the name Daisy Mae and it is a nod to what the Reynolds/Lively baby will be named…..

    Then again. I KNOW NUTHIN’!

I have no idea, but I can’t wait to find out! And it could be a long while, as they didn’t announce any of their other kids’ names at birth (or ever, really, they all kind of just leaked).

For a girl I’ll guess Sophia. Wouldn’t a top 10 name be surprising?? And for a boy, something currently feminine that used to be masculine, like Ashley or Avery.

For a boy, I’ll guess Chester or Ernest for family names. Or something similar from when Inez was popular, like Leslie, Morris, Vernon, Julius.

I’m feeling a nature or noun name for a girl like Harbor or Wren or Magnolia.

Or Logan. After Ryan’s friendship with Hugh Jackman :)

It’s so funny about a boy name, because I just assumed it’s another girl.

Their style seems to be family / honour names that don’t need to match. James is his dad, Betty is her paternal grandmother. Inez is harder to figure out but I’m sure it’s meaningful. Maybe her maternal line somehow?

I hope they use Ellender for either sex! (Her middle name) or if it’s his maternal side turn maybe Lee or Stewart?

Aside from being a supporter of the Taylor Swift theory (name dropping “Daisy Mae”), I have a few other ideas:

-Either Bea or Gray, after Blake’s grandmother Beatrice. I’m leaning more towards Gray, since they already have Betty and that could be a Beatrice derivative.
    -Lane, after Blake’s mother Elaine
-Lee, after Ryan’s mother Tamara Stewart Lee.

Whatever it is, I think it will be short and sweet like the rest. I definitely don’t see them having a James, Betty, Inez, and then an Anastasia Katherine Valentina.

I wish Carmen would make more of a comeback. It’s a great feminine name that sounds unisex, but really isn’t. Plus it would complement Inez nicely!

For a boy, I really don’t know! Probably not a traditional boys name for the fact that it would clash with their naming style of James for a girl.

James and Betty were family names. So maybe less about the surprise and more about the meaning? Which makes guessing harder.

I say Earnest or Ernie if it’s a boy. If it’s a girl I think it will be a place name.

From what I gather, they like names out of the female top 1000, 1 or 2 syllables and no -a ending, a little old fashioned and not frilly, so here are a few guesses:
    Fern
    Juno
    Sybil
    Vesper
    Ingrid
    Soleil

Oh it makes perfect sense! Rita is a nice middle ground, because it’s used in Spanish speaking countries, just like Inez, and it was popular in the 1920’s just like Betty (and Inez).
And it’s not in the female top 1000, but it’s familiar, just like all the other names.

Plot twist: “Shannon” is actually Ryan Reynolds or Blake Lively himself/herself, writing because they need baby name help! ;-)

I will guess Joanne nicknamed “Jo” for a girl, because I feel it links James and Betty, and Mateo for a boy, because it’s a Spanish name like Inez.
