Our Favorite Baby Name Sibsets Starting with V

First post of this series, with longer explanation, here.

This time we are not just listing our favorite names starting with a letter, as we did before: we are forming SIBSETS. You can choose any number of siblings, any number of boys/girls, any number of sibsets. This might be TOO broad in scope and, as we play, we might come up with better guidelines. But for now, the idea is that we are imagining a little sibling set of children (they do not have to be our own children), and all of their names are going to start with the same letter, and we will just see how things go from there. As before, you can say as much or as little as you like about your decision-making process, and you can choose multiple sibling sets (“This is what I’d choose for two girls, this is what I’d choose for three boys, this is what I’d choose for one boy and one girl…”) or just one—whatever is most fun / whatever you have the time and energy for on that particular day. I liked the idea some people had of re-naming their actual children with matching initials. (I am not going to attempt that with the more difficult letters.)

Today we work on the letter V. When we played the previous game with V, I liked Veronica and Vanessa and Verity and Victoria and Vivian for girls, but had a harder time with boys: I liked Vaughn, Vernon, Victor, Vince, but none as much as I like the girl names.

But because there ARE four boy names, I am going to pretend I am forced to rename my existing children using V names. I choose Vernon, Vaughn, Veronica, Victor, and Vince, in that order. Veronica/Victor are the twins, and I like the way the two names share the snappy hard-C sound as well as the V. (I DON’T like the way it keeps making my brain glitch and think the girl-name is Victoria.) I wouldn’t normally put Vernon and Veronica in the same sibling set, but desperate times etc.

If my kids were instead four girls and one boy, I would name them Vanessa, Vivian, Vaughn, Veronica, and Verity. I’m pairing Vaughn/Veronica for the twins because I like the similar vowel sound of vaughn/ron. I had trouble with the name for the youngest, because I would rather use Victoria than Verity, but Victoria is so similar in sound/letters to the Veronica right before it; so then I thought, not only is Verity a different set of sounds (even though the Ver-/Ver- of Veronica/Verity LOOKS similar), but also by the fifth child I’d be more willing to steer off my usual style path.

Love Valerian, Valentine, Victor, Vance and Virgil for boys. Adore Vesper, Vivien, Venetia, Veronica and Valencia for girls.

I choose Valentine, nicknamed Val, for a boy. I choose Venetia, nicknamed Tia, for a girl. 💙❤️

For a boy, the only V name that I could consider using and that I actually love is Vilhelm. My most favourite V girl name is Vilhelmina, but obviously I won’t be as cruel as to use it in this sibset together with Vilhelm. I also reasonably like Veronica, but because I live in Poland, the Polish Weronika spoils it for me, because it’s so popular and because everyone wants to nickname it to Wera. Recently I’ve really fallen in love with Via (VEE-uh). And I think that’s what I’ll go with. Vilhelm and Via still both start with Vi- but I guess it’s not overly glaring, and I just have no better idea. :D

If I had to re-name my three children all V names I’d use Vincent, Vanessa, and Valerie. (It’s fun to play as if I’m re-naming my already existing children because then I can take their personalities into account.)

Definitely not renaming my 10 kiddos with this one. I don’t like enough v names. But I would choose Verity and Valor as a cute sibset.

This is my first time playing. I’ve chosen two names for each gender – including a couple of middles!

Girls: Viveca Sky (pronounced Viv-uh-kuh) and Vaela Dove (could be pronounced Vay-luh, Vay-uh-luh, or even Vay-el-uh).

Boys: Vicente (pronounced Vih-cent-ay) and Vasco (Vaws-co or Voss-co).

My great-grandmother’s name was Veda, which I also like. It would be cool if one of her ancestors discovered it and decided to use it again.

This was fun – I look forward to playing again! :)

P.S. I had forgotten about the Portuguese explorer Vasco de Gama and didn’t remember learning about the horrors he perpetrated during some of his voyages (google if interested). So, while this name is one that I like, its history might be hard to get past when thinking about using it for a real child.

My three children would be Vincent, Veronica and Valerie.

I also like Vaughn and Victor for boys, and Vanessa and Victoria for girls; but three kids is my limit!

I am playing this game by imagining that I am renaming the children of a friend of mine: a girl, twin boys, and then another girl. So for this letter, this sibset would be named Vanessa, Vincent, Virgil, and Valerie. I actually love so many V names, especially for girls!

My children actually have a middle name V sibset! My son’s middle is Vance, after my maternal grandfather, and my daughter’s middle is Virginia, after my paternal grandmother. I find the subtle symmetry in honor and initial very pleasing.

I’m going to choose a girl/boy/girl sibset. I think Veronica, Val, and Viola. I don’t love Val, but I can’t think of anything else I like better.

I went to school with a sibset (three girls) named: Vera, Vivian and Viola. They were know as the “3 V’s” :-)

OK, so I’m going to continue with my existing family structure, plus imaginary (ideal) third child.

Girl, boy, boy: Vita, Viggo and Valentine

Girl, boy, girl: Vita, Viggo and Vivienne – I prefer Vesper but I definitely trip over that with Vita.

I think Valor and Verity would make an amazing sibset. Not for my kids…I don’t think. But really lovely together.

I already have a Victoria. I was on the fence about the name but now I can’t imagine her as anything else. If I had to name a sibling a V name I guess I might choose Vincent, a name I feel similarly ambivalent to.

    Victoria and Vincent

But for fantasy children I might choose Vienna or Venetia. Or maybe both. Not sure if it’s too close or just the right amount of matchy. With a brother Van, possibly short for Evander.

    Vienna, Venetia and Van

That reminds me that I also like Lavinia nn Vinnie.
