Baby Boy Bradley, Brother to Brennan, Bailey, and Brock

Hi Swistle,

We are expecting our 3rd little boy and are in need of a B name. My husband and I are Ben and Brittany Bradley and we have 3 children: Brennan, Bailey, and Brock Bradley. We feel B named out at this point and are struggling with a name for our 3rd boy. Any ideas would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Brittany

My guess is that by now you have been through the B section of the baby name book so many times, it’s somewhere between unlikely and impossible that I will think of a name you have missed. But sometimes crowd support for a name can help move it ahead of the pack, so let’s make a list and see what everyone likes best.

Baker
Barnaby
Barrett
Baxter
Beau
Beckett
Beckham
Bennett
Benson
Bertrand
Blaine
Blaise
Blake
Boston
Bowen
Braden
Branson
Brant
Brecken
Brett
Bridger
Briggs
Brigham
Broder
Brogan
Bryant
Bryce
Bryson

My favorites are:

Baxter Bradley; Brennan, Bailey, Brock, and Baxter
Beckett Bradley; Brennan, Bailey, Brock, and Beckett
Bowen Bradley; Brennan, Bailey, Brock, and Bowen
Brogan Bradley; Brennan, Bailey, Brock, and Brogan
Bryant Bradley; Brennan, Bailey, Brock, and Bryant
Bryson Bradley; Brennan, Bailey, Brock, and Bryson

To me, the most appealing choices are the ones that don’t share a lot of sounds with the names you’ve already chosen. Beau or Bowen, Beckham, Blaine… If I were in your shoes, I would want to avoid any names that started with Br- because if you chose another Br- name, then all the kids but Bailey would have a Br- name. That may not be important to you, of course, but that’s what jumped out at me. My top choice from the list would probably be Beau. I already think the name is cute, and it has a completely different sound than any of the names you’ve already chosen.

I like Baxter, Beau, & Bryant for you. I also saw all the BR’s & worried about Bryant. But if I’m correct, Bailey the girl? Then all the boys would be BR so it wouldn’t be as much of an issue for Bailey to stand out.

Yes Bailey is a girl. Also Bailey passed away to SIDs so it will just be the 3 brothers. All Br names might be cute!

So sorry for the loss of your daughter.
I know someone who has two sons and two daughters and all have Br- names. Their boys are Bryce and Brayden. I like Bryce with your sibset. I also think it’s neat to carry the Br- for all three boys.

I too think you should avoid another BR name as well. That respective sound really jumped out at me too.

If more well known B names are not appealing to you perhaps so creativity is needed.

Barnes. Blaze, Baron, Burke, Birch, Baird, Boris

I’m with everyone else- you still have a lot of good B names to choose from!

I have always loved Blaise but my husband would not go for it so I will suggest that as my top for you!

    Other suggestions:

    Boston
    Bevin
    Blakely
    Bastian
    Blaine (others have suggested this!)
    Barrett (Others have suggested this!)

Here is the list of BR names I’ve collected over time. While I agree with others that it would be nice to avoid a BR name this time there are just so many!

    Bradford
    Briggs
    Braxton
    Brooks
    Breck
    Bracken
    Barrington
    Brogan
    Brier (MY FAVORITE BR name)!!!!!!!!

Another vote for Beau. Beau Bradley sounds so nice (and familiar – I had to Google it to make sure I wasn’t thinking of someone famous.)

I think “Beau Bradley” may sound familiar because of Boo Radley from To Kill a Mockingbird. It’s too close for me, because it’s such an iconic character from a typically mandatory book.

And I just noticed that someone else said this, too. Sorry, I hadn’t read all of the comments!

I think that I like Baxter best for your family, unless you decide that you want all of the boys to have a “Br-” name.

I love the name Blaise but hubby says it is too “out there” for us. :( So I’m going to push you to use it! LOL

    I also really like Blaine.

The suggestions of Beau/Bo sound great too!

Barrett avoids the Br but still have that r sound you seem to like.

Thank you so much Swistle and thank you for all of the replies! My husband wants to go with Baze. We heard this name on a TV show and he really likes it. Does is seem like to strange of a name? I also like Baylor, Bennett, Benji, Brooks, and Britton. As far as the Br issue…Bailey, our daughter passed away from SIDs so we would have 3 Br brothers which might be cute! Thanks again for the input!

I am so sorry to hear about your daughter, how awful.

If I were in your shoes, I do love Bennett/Benji but then you’d have a Brennan and two Bens in the family If you went with Britton then there would be Brittany and Britton, which would be a bit much for me – quite confusing.

I LOVE Brooks, but “Brooks Bradley” sounds a bit like a preppy clothing brand to me.

My favourites are Bowen, Bryce and Blaine.

Oh forgot to say… I think Baze sounds a little bit like you just made it up. Not a fan really and I don’t think it particularly sounds like a name.

I’m not a fan of Beau either, I guess it’s because it’s the French word for beautiful or goodlooking. So it sounds to me like naming your kid “Handsome” as their first name.

Baze could be a great nickname for a lot of the names on the list if you didn’t go with it for the given name.

From the list my favorites are Barrett, Baxter, Bennett, Bertrand, and Bryce.

Or how about Bayard or Baylor?

Or, if you feel you’ve used all the B names in your chosen style, it might be freeing to go with a more traditional name like Benjamin and count on the Bs to hold the sibling set together.

Maybe it’s just me, but Beau Bradley reminds me of Boo Radley from To Kill a Mockingbird. I personally would also avoid another Br. My favorites are Blake, Bowen, Beckett, and like the suggest of Baylor.

I also like Britton, Baylor, Bennett, Brooks, and Benji. My husband is Benjamin so Benji would be a good Jr. nickname. You might as well add the “L” onto Baze because Blaze (however you would choose to spell) sounds more normal than Baze.

I’m familiar with the show you referenced and I really liked that character, so it doesn’t seem strange to me. Perhaps Basil, nicknamed Baze, would also be an option? Basil Bradley: Brennen, Bailey, Brock, and Basil. Br, Ba, Br, Ba.

I second Baylor, although its so close to Bailey. I wonder if youd like Braxton or Benjamin? Or Bohdi? I love Brogan, too! Bennett is a good one.

We’ve got a Barrett. I get a ton of compliments on his name. He’s often called Bear, which totally fits his personality.

I vote for Braydon, Bryson or Braxton then you have all Br brothers with different vowels following. I also love the nn Benji for Benjamin if that would be most meaningful. And then lastly, I like Beckett and Blaze if just having a B feels connected enough and you love them the most. Baze doesn’t feel like a name to me.

I would continue the Br unless you do Jr. just because to me it seems like a pattern after 2. My personal style of names is classic but for your situation Braxton is my favorite. I think it flows well with Brock and Brennen. You get the Br but with an individual flavor for each boy. I’m guessing you call Brennen Bren part of time and I love the idea of Bren, Brax and Brock.

I’m so sorry for the loss of your daughter Bailey.

I like introducing a new vowel sound to feel fresh. I like the name Bowman (sounds like the end of rainbow and the plural men.) I think the nickname Bo is way cute.

I don’t care for the name Baze, but if you love it, go for it!

I think my favorite is Benjamin nicknamed Benji.

Maybe your husband likes Baze partly because the youngest sibling always sounds so good with a one syllable name. If so, I’m a fan of Brooks, Bryce and Brock (if it weren’t in the news right now for terrible reasons). I like those better than Baze myself because they have less intuitive rhymes. I also always add -ie for nicknames and Bazie sounds…crazy :)

Ack! I see you already have a Brock!! Well there you go-take it off the list and proof that everyone has to weather an uncomfortable news story now and then :)

    base is just ok.

Blaise! It’s super close to Baze and is an established, cool old name. Baze by itself does seem somewhat odd to me, but it could be a cool nickname for Basil.

On Baze: I think it’s cute. It’s not a “real name,” and it’s rare enough that you might have to clarify “no, not Blaze/Blaise” quite a bit, but it’s not crazy, and if you like it, I don’t see why you shouldn’t use it.

Or, what about Bastian? It doesn’t seem quite your style, but Baz (not Baze, but close) is one of the traditional nicknames for Sebastian. Brennan, Bailey, Brock, and Baz.

I’d probably go for a name that doesn’t go begin with Br-, personally, especially if there’s any chance you’ll have another baby. For example, if you have Brennan, Bailey, Brock, and Brayden, and there’s another baby on the way, you really will feel stuck with a Br- pattern (especially since in day-to-day life, people will just be hearing “Brennan, Brock, Brayden, and B…”). Of the non Br- options, I like Bodhi, Beau, Bowen, Bowie, Beckett, Barrett, Blaze, Boone, Benson, Benton. (A few of my fav B names don’t quite feel like your style, but I’m going to throw them out there anyway: Briar, Blue, Bear.)

If you decide you want to stick with Br- names, one with a different strong consonant sound within or at its end gets my vote (Brennan has the internal/ending N sounds, Bailey the internal L, and Brock the ending K), so maybe: Brayden, Bryson, Braxton, Bryce, Briggs, Brighton, Bridger. I find any of the -ee ending names too rhyme-y with Bradley, but you used Bailey, so maybe you’d like Brody or Brentley?

My son is Brody. I have found it to be a great name, even though I didn’t ever consider it before my husband brought it up. I teach in an elementary school with 560 kids and my 9 year old is the only Brody.

Would Bodie (or Bode or Bodhi) work for you? A friend used it and it startled me a first but it’s so great on an actual little boy.
I do also love when a junior come after several other kids though too–not quite sure why? And Benjamin is such a great name for nicknames, or just on its own.
Do you think your husband might go for Basil with the nn Baze?

I recommend a name starting with Ba so you can use Baze as a nickname. I think it sounds too much like beige as a stand alone (I’m assuming it rhymes with daze)

    Hi Brittney,

I know this is a long shot that you answer since the post is so old, but we were looking for name ideas and came across your post. We have Brock, Brendan, and Bailey. Our Bailey passed away too. We’re thinking Beau, Bradley, or Benjamin for our 3rd son. What did you go with?
