Baby Boy or Girl Hightower, Sibling to Sawyer, Dylan, Karley, and Bryanna

Savannah writes:

We are expecting our 3rd child together, 5th child overall. When it comes to names, we have very different naming styles and we are having a very hard time deciding on name for our baby.

Some things to know:

– I have a son from a previous marriage named Dylan Christopher (age 5). His name is very traditional and his name is steadily climbing in name ranks. He was adopted by his step-father (my husband) when he was a baby and he has the last name Hightower along with his siblings.

– My husband has a son from a previous marriage named Sawyer Anthony (age 6). My husband selected his name and he loves more unique names. Sawyer’s name is a name you don’t hear so often and it feels “fresh” when you do hear it.

– We have twin daughters together (age 2) named Karley Rae and Bryanna Morgan “Karley and Brynn.” It was almost impossible to decide on Brynn’s name. We selected Karley after my grandmother Caroline, but decided to make it a little more unique. Bryanna was decided on in the hospital after I saw it on the computer and just instantly loved it.

This time around with gender unknown, its even harder. We have a short list, but we don’t seem to love anything so much.

BOYS:

Everett (Rhett)
Elias
Rowan (Rowe)
Camden

Girls:

Hanna
Teagan
Ryane
Delaney
Kailyn
Cassidy

Middle names will come from family:

Jeanne
Quinn
Oliver
George
Lillian
Catherine
Denise
Taylor

Thanks and by the way, my name is Savannah Marie and my husband is Nolan Anthony.

From your list of boy names, my favorite with the sibling names is Camden: it gives a new initial and a new sound, but is similar in style to the others. I like Camden Taylor Hightower.

From your list of girl names, I’m less sure. Dylan and Delaney are too similar to my ear, and Kailyn seems almost like a blend of Karley and Bryanna. Hanna seems too similar to Bryanna and Savannah, and Teagan is so much less feminine than the other two girls’ names. I’m not sure how Ryane is pronounced (is it Ryan with an E to make it seem feminine, or is it ry-ANNE, or is it like Rain, or is it ry-ANE like to rhyme with cane?). So that leaves Cassidy, which I like for similar reasons as Camden: it introduces a new sound and a new initial. I like Cassidy Jeanne Hightower.

For boys I feel like Camden is such a good fit, I’m hardly motivated to search further: anything I think of seems not as good.

Archer
Beckett
Cade
Callum
Carson (too close to Karley?)
Carter (too close to Karley?)
Cason
Corbin
Cormac
Grady
Greyson
Lennox
Ruben

Possibilities for a girl:

Alivia
Avelyn (too close to Dylan?)
Berkeley
Cadence
Eleni
Emery
Everly
Juniper
Laney
Madigan
Marin
Paisley
Piper
Shelby

I like Camden Taylor for a boy, too. Also, Elias Quinn or Rowan Oliver. I think I like the last one best.

For a girl, I like Cassidy Taylor, Hanna Catherine, Hanna Jeanne, or Teagan Quinn.

For a boy I like Camden best too, there’s something about it that just seems to fit just right with the other siblings. Camden Oliver, perhaps. I’m also fond of Elias for you.
I also suggest Foster and Graham.
For a girl, I like Cassidy (Cassidy Jeanne) and Teagan (Teagan Lillian).
    I suggest Aurora and Payton.
    Good luck!

I love the name Camden Hightower, but the whole time I was reading this post, there was something about it that didn’t fit in your sib set with me. And then I saw Swistle’s suggestion of Greyson, and it dawned on me! All your kids have a “Y” in their name, and it was the missing “Y” in Camden that was nagging at me.

Sawyer, Dylan, Karley, Bryanna, and Camden.

Sawyer, Dylan, Karley, Bryanna, and Greyson.

Yep, that’s totally it. The “Y” thing. I have NO idea if that is something you even care to continue, but for a consistency freak like me, Camden just doesn’t *fit* quite like another “Y”-having name does.

For the same reasons, I like Cassidy and especially Emery for you!

I am the same “Anonymous” from above, and I’d like to point out that you can OF COURSE spell Camden “Camdyn” but I know that A) some people are wholly, not-on-your-life-would-I-do-that, against adding a “Y” in nontraditional spaces. Also, B) Camdyn seems much more feminine, and for me at least, it changes the name entirely. But again, that is JUST me, and something tells me that you two aren’t people who would mind a non-traditional spelling!!

I’m usually a lurker on this site, but just wanted to chime in this time to say that I too noticed the “y” trend in the rest of the names and thought it might be nice to continue it with this next child. I’m not usually a fan of trends like that, but with a blended family it’s always a nice way for the siblings to feel connected. Good luck!

love camden hightower! what about weston?

for a girl, i think swistle’s suggestion of Laney is a good compromise – gives her a new initial but captures a sound similar to karley and bryanna.

    good luck!

Oh, I hate to go against the advice of everyone else, but I will. Camden Hightower is a fabulous name, but with brothers named Dylan and Sawyer, it sounds too feminine to my ear. Paired with Taylor (a la Swistle’s suggestion), I’d have no idea if Camden Taylor was a boy or girl, but would probably pick girl. Plus, there’s the Y thing, and Camdyn doesn’t help my “boy or girl?” problem.

BUT! Greyson! This is so fantastic! Greyson Oliver is my pick for a boy, though Elias nn Eli is a close second.

For a girl, I love Cassidy Jeanne with your kids’ names. I also think Linley might be a nice fit. Good luck!
