Fiesta Flatware Quandry Resolution

Since we talked last:

1. By the time I finished writing the post about my Fiesta Flatware Quandary, I felt so panicked about the situation that I picked up my purse and got right into the car and drove 30 minutes to the store without even waiting for the comments/voting. I was nearly panting by the time I arrived. I walked directly to the flatware section and it was not there.

2. OH WAIT THERE IT IS, just moved to a different shelf and lying flat on its back so I couldn’t see it!!! I picked up one box and cuddled it all the way to the register.

3. I spent the rest of the day feeling intensely satisfied about the purchase, especially as the “BUY IT, BUY IT RIGHT NOW, WHY ARE YOU EVEN WASTING TIME ASKING??” comments kept coming in.

4. This morning I woke up wondering if I should have also bought the third set.

5. No, that would have been silly.

6. Well, but.

7. 9:51 a.m., comment from Megan B.: “Go buy what you can because Cambridge Silversmiths has discontinued this pattern and soon you won’t be able to find it anywhere! I sold my final set on Amazon for over $100 because people are having such a hard time finding it now, so RUN and buy all you can now!”

8. 9:52 a.m., purse in hand and on the way to the car.

9. In car: “They won’t have it. Don’t get your hopes up. You were very, very lucky to find even ONE set. The SECOND set was AMAZINGLY lucky. If you don’t find the third set, you still have TWO sets, and that is a LOT of rainbow flatware.”

10. THEY HAVE IT!!!!!!!!!!

11. Take it out and look at it at every traffic light all the way home.

I want to “like” this post as if it were on Facebook. :)

I’ve been rechecking your site ever since I voted hoping to see a resolution that involved you getting more of the flatware. Yay!

I have ALSO been checking back and am SO HAPPY you got all the rainbow flatware! Like another commenter from yesterday, I remember the things that I did not purchase 20 years ago and wish that I did!

You will never regret buying three sets. Cutlery mysteriously disappears. I don’t have many house rules, but one of them is–no one is allowed to take the kitchen silverware out of the house (i.e. school lunches, etc.). We bought thrift store forks and spoons for that purpose. To date, knock on wood, I still have every piece I bought. Enjoy the pretty new purchase!!!

It seems to be a win/win situation. You either have enough silverware to use for your family and if company comes over or you can try to sell one and get your first two sets for free. Glad you were able to get them!

is it weird I am glad you went this direction? hehe. I get so obsessive over stuff I HAVE TO HAVE IT and only then will I calm down adn stop thinking about it. It’s always something mundane like cutlery or water bottles or shoes or socks.

Yayyyy!!!! I was worried you wouldn’t see my comment!! To make you feel even better I kind of think that $40 is close to how much I was paying to buy it wholesale.

So, where did you find it? I need to go to the same store in my area and see if I can find it!

I found it at HomeGoods. We have another HomeGoods within reasonable driving distance, and I felt so obsessed that I went THERE too—but they didn’t have any.

Bahah. I LOVE that I’m not the only crazy person who uses reason to not purchase something and then immediately regret it… feeling almost sick to your stomach because you MIGHT DIE if by the time you go back it’s not there and if, on the off chance you do find it, by as many multiples as your wallet will allow in case you never find it ever again.

I have Fiestaware dishes but not silverware, and I have wanted it, and I have not bought it, but now I REALLY WANT IT. I think I will go to the store today and see if they have any left!

And I totally support buying as many sets as possible, because I have also heard that the colorful bits can fall off, particularly if you run them through the dishwasher repeatedly. I’m glad you went back!

TOTALLY the right decision! I was in the “buy 3!” camp, because I think you really did need it, and 3 sets is so much more practical for entertaining (or for having silverware on hand when some is dirty). I think it’s a lot easier to regret not buying it than buying it, and $40 a set is so little in the scheme of things. WELL DONE. I shall now try to follow my own advice and buy things rather than obsessing and regretting later.

Being slightly behind on reading posts means that I was able to read the previous post, vote, and immediately see that you did what I instructed, which was a very satisfying experience.

Now I’m almost convinced that I need this rainbow flatware and I don’t even have Fiesta Ware. I am thrilled with the outcome and laughing that it would have played out the same way had I been involved.

What does Paul think/does he know of the angst? Dh would be rolling his eyes to the back of his head. He wouldn’t notice if I put plastic in the drawer and he had to use that for the rest of ever.

I told him nothing of the angst, or of the return trips. So all he knows is the Day 1 story, which is that I found the flatware and bought it with some of my own money. He noticed that a second set had been added, but only raised his eyebrows. The third set is wrapped up and hidden tucked away safely in the basement.
